CRS 334 [S] Principles of Community Development (3).

Prereq 3 credits S or K course, soph. standing. Cross-listed with H D 334. Factors influencing how communities grow and decline and the ways in which social intervention influence these outcomes.

CRS 335 [K] Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Community (3).

Prereq 3 credits S or K course. Comparative analysis of U.S. and non-U.S. communities, their sustainability, and their role in past and future human development.

CRS 336 [S] Agriculture, Environment and Community (3).

Prereq 3 credits S or K course, soph. standing. Examines interdependence between farming/ranching, the natural environment and human communities including perspectives on sustainable agriculture. Satisfies a core requirement in the Agricultural and Food Systems (AFS) degree program.

CRS 391 Special Topics (V1–3).

Prereq 3 credits S or K course, soph. standing. Topics in rural sociology or community studies. May be repeated for credit; cumulative maximum 3 hours.

CRS 416 (404) Sustainable Small Farming and Ranching (3).

Same as AFS 416 (SoilS 404). Introduction to small acreage production systems, evaluation of personal and family goals, land evaluation, business planning, marketing options, regulations, and community resources. Cooperative course taught by UI (Ag 416), open to WSU students.

CRS 417 (403) Agricultural Entrepreneurship (3).

[S-F Grading]. Same as AFS 417 (SoilS 403). Designed for students who are interested in starting an agricultural enterprise or gaining knowledge of the process. Cooperative course taught by UI (AG 404), open to WSU students.

CRS 423 (523) Fundamentals of Participatory Research (3).

Prereq 6 credits in S or K courses, soph. standing. Cross-listed: H D 423. Principals/methods of involving community/interest group members in knowledge generation to understand local issues while building local capacity. Credit not granted for both CRS 423 and 523.

CRS 431 [T, D] The Demographics of American Diversity (3).

Prereq Jr. or Sr. standing; completion of all other GERs. How trends in diversity in American society are changing over time, forces underlying these trends and debates on these.

CRS 435 Resolving Environmental Conflicts (4).

Cross-listed: ES/RP 435 and NATRS 428. Prereq 6 credits in S or K courses, junior standing. Introduction to environmental conflict resolution via readings, discussions, simulation role plays and required papers. Emphasis on interest-based approaches. Credit not granted for both CRS 435 and 535.

CRS 441 Local Impacts of Global Commodity Systems (3).

Prereq 6 credits in S or K courses, junior standing. Theories of globalization, its social, political and economic dimensions, and its impact on people and communities. Credit not granted for both CRS 441 and 541.
